With more than 78.3% of the U.S. population online, it's not too hard to affirm, website marketing is one of, if not, the most important aspects to a business and its long-term success. Who performs the all important tasks surrounding this facet of a business isn't necessarily as important as what is being done day to day to ensure results that deliver that all important ROI.
If you've just so happened to inherit these responsibilities as a result of downsizing or other factors, this is now your life and whether you chose it or not, you'll need to be bent on seeing it through to success. That being said, I can offer you some advice to head you in the right direction...
If you Fail to Prepare you Should Prepare to Fail
Let's start with the very important first step. If you don't have a road map to your desired results, your website marketing efforts will have no clearly defined goals and will achieve, at best, sporadic results. What you need to start, then, is a plan...
Begin With the end in Mind
While "begin with the end in mind" can seem like a vague statement, it's a springboard to get your juices flowing... What are your intentions besides the universal cry for "more sales?" You'll need to chunk your goals into manageable steps that will achieve your long term goals. Like climbing the rungs on a ladder, if you set achievable small goals that build upon the last in each area you're trying to drive results in, you will arrive at your destination. Begin by clarifying your objective in the areas that are important to you. To assist you, your website marketing strategy should address these elements to get results fast:
- Make sure your website is working. By that I mean links, navigation and your data is up-to-date.
- Begin blogging. Companies that blog regularly receive 55% more traffic than those that don't. Make sure you're using relevant keywords and long-tail keywords in your headline and body of content for which you wish to be found.
- Create compelling CTAs and landing pages. (calls-to-action). Put something on your website that's worth your visitors giving their email address up for. You can create a small eBook that conveys value by offering a compilation of data about the benefits of your product and the authority you possess in the matter. Or offer a free, no obligation consultation for your services.
- Send out a mass email blast. Gather all your contacts in your database and blast an email out to them offering your new eBook or other offer of value. Don't forget to add a "forward to a friend" link in your email, as well as you social media icons so they can go directly from the email to your social media profile(s).
- Create interactive signature files. Make sure everyone in your company has signature files that provide contact information, links to your website and even a CTA to your new offer.
- Engage in social media. Share your daily blog and other offers of value. if you're on the internet at all you know how huge this is! Just put yourself out there...
- Create a marketing calendar. This might be your most important tool to staying on task and ahead of your game because this is what will drive much of your activity across all platforms. Include public holidays, your business' anniversary if you offer special engagement activities, special sales and promotions, speaking engagements, networking events, conferences, community service projects and new product launches. *Don't forget to factor in personal events that might impact your ability to carry out your professional obligations.
Drive Your Website Marketing Results FAST!
Your main objective is to draw visitors to your website and entice your them to engage with you. If they leave you their email address, you'll have the opportunity then to continue the exchange and hopefully get the next dance too that results in a long-term relationship...
A recent coaching client of ours who started his new website, implemented these steps to get fast results and within a very short amount of time, received 22 signups in one day! Building upon this momentum, he's definitely on a path to success! If he can do it, so can you!
